“I hear we’re having steak tonight?”
“Steak? Oh, Boy! Rare?”
“Better ‘n better”
“I need your muscles though.”
“To carry the ice-cold beer!”
“Can do, can do!”
“Hey, Ole.” “How’s Lena doin’?”
“You heard about that huh?”
“Oh, geez. She’s not gonna be happy.”
“Why that’s the point of getting married, so you can have kids.”
“Well, we had to because her dad had a shotgun!”
“I know but 4 shud be enouf, ya think?”
“Ole, however many you two have is a blessing, right?”
“So, the pastor says.” “Course he doesn’t have to pay for them!”
Ed. I would like to interject an explanation here:
In case some of you are not from the Land of 10,000 Lakes you may not be familiar with Ole and Lena.
The names Ole and Lena are well used in Northern Minnesota. Ole is the name of a great warrior.
Lena (pronounced Leena – with the emphasis on the second vowel) is pronounced, incorrectly I might add, “Layna” (emphasis on the first vowel) by the Swedes, a wild tribe that also inhabits Northern MN.
You may discern that there is no love lost between the tribes, except in this particular situation where Ole is Norwegian and Lena is Swedish (an old love story for sure). So much so that Ole and Lena are national heroes and you hear the names often – especially at supper time “OOOLLLEEEEE”.
Ole is bald and a bit pudgy, not overly so, but he is recognized as a lover of the malt.
Lena is a rare beauty, long blonde hair tied in braids with rosy pink cheeks. Yes, indeed, a fair maiden.
Ole’s best friend is See More. I guess I don’t know is given name we have always called him See More due to his inch-thick glasses that he has to keep pushing up on this nose.
(I must add I think he is the smarter of the two – but don’t say anything I don’t want to start that ruckus all over again.)
As Ole and See More are buzzing their way home discussing the upcoming feast they know awaits them (they first have to stop to get the ice-cold beer) they are observed by two other friends Rocky and Blockhead (blockhead is a nickname fur shur).
We know that Rocky and Blockhead are Mosquito Hawks see picture.
Now we have the picture:
Two friends buzzing home to a meal of blood and steak and two other friends observing them.
What is in store for our two best buds?
Two mosquitoes with blood one their minds and two mosquito hawks.
Well, I don’t know because Mosquito Hawks don’t eat mosquitoes.
Isn’t that strange?
Must be from Minnie so tah! (Emphasis on the last vowel.)
We will have to tune into the next edition to find out what in the world is going on.
Thanks for stopping.
I had been feeling ugly all day.
In the evening my wife took me to the emergency room.
On November 14, 2018, I died.
If you are going to die, a hospital is probably the best place to do it.
Of course, I don’t remember.
The ONLY thing I do remember is PAIN!
I remember flying up from the ER table and that is all.
I was told I couldn’t possibly remember.
Well, they weren’t there.
Oh yeah, they were there.
But they don’t know. I know.
A doctor came to see me and we discussed implanting a defibrillator so if my heart stopped again, the defibrillator would restart it.
It seemed like a smart thing to do – implant the defibber or whatever it was.
My concern was running the lines outside of my body into my heart.
I suffer from a leg infection “cellulitis” due to my diabetes.
The opportunity for transmitting that infection from my legs to my heart seemed pretty scary if there was a line running outside my body.
As I sit here typing this I have a huge gob of skin missing on my left leg.
It slid off the other night. I’ve been to the doctor, the ER, and
the Wound Clinic. But they can’t put Humpty together again.
Cellulitis is caused by fluid build-up between the layers of skin.
Bacteria love the warm fluid and quickly cause an infection.
The infection causes the skin to blister.
Blistered skin means a day later it sloughs off. And now it is raw meat. HURTS!
The doctor agreed. He recommended an internal device.
On a scale of 1 to 10 for awesome decisionmaking, this was a -0.
On a Friday afternoon in October, my bride and I were in the
car mosying up and down the boulevard when I COULDN’T
This is not a good thing.
I said, “to the hospital, NOW!”
She knew we were closer to a clinic than the hospital so she
zipped the few blocks to the clinic.
I asked her to get a nurse and a wheelchair.
I may not have said those exact words since an electric elephant was pounding my chest. (The pink battery bunny? Only much bigger.)
I was screaming at the top of my lungs.
It hurt so bad!
She came out with a big guy who said he had worked in the ER.
I was much relieved at the news. He was going to stay with me
until the ambulance got there.
The ambulance, lights blazing and siren blaring roared into the parking
Of course, the fire engine and patrol cars had to tag along.
They did their questionnaire and decided I had to get out of the
I alerted them to the fact that was a problem since:
1) I could barely breathe and 2) my legs were mush.
They brought out the coolest tool- a semi-rigid blanket.
Somehow they worked it around me, I stood up and they laid
me back on the blanket and moved me to the gurney. In the blink of the eye.
I have said on many occasions in the last two years – I will take a med-tech instead of some doctors. These people that work for Mayo Clinic Ambulance are AWESOME!
If you don’t have a primary doctor eligible to work in the hospital (my primary is a VA doctor) you don’t get a specialist. You get a hospitalist.
“His” opinion of why I had so much chest pain was: The upper chamber of my heart emptied into my lower chamber before the lower chamber had emptied.
They gave me some pills to slow down my heart rate.
I had three more of those attacks.
I wasn’t expecting anything different when I went to the emergency room on my birthday November 14.
That was the day I died.
The power supply was implanted under my armpit and the wires were plugged into my heart.
It was implanted on November 16, 2018.
January and February were good – no new attacks.
The pills are working!
The defib hadn’t gone off.
March – a little one. Another pill to take.
April was good – Whoohooo! Better living thru Chemistry!
October “DAMN!” That hurt. What the hell!!!
If I had been standing I would have been on my butt!
Ambulance was called.
NOW thoughts were dancing in my head and not of sugarplums either.. The roads – especially the freeway in Duluth MN is enough to jostle every brain cell out of you.
Laying on your back on gurney.
In an ambulance. Rocky back and forth, and bouncing up and down.
I wrote a nasty email to the mayor once I was settled into my room.(My wife says I am too negative and mean to people. I guess I don’t understand her question.) I suggested to the mayor that she have the guy in charge of street repairs try riding in an ambulance on his streets.
Ambulance tech shaking and shoving a needle into an artery.
The ambulance techs has to prep you so if needed IV intervention as soon as you get to the ER you are ready to go.
I have had techs give me better IVs than nurses – By Far.
The ABSOLUTE WORST! IV’s are the ones they put on the top of your hand. They hurt for weeks afterward.
The ABSOLUTE worst IV? An ER doctor. He tried putting it in my hand three times. Three times!
I told him to put it in the crook of my elbow. My artery jumps right out of my skin there.
“No. It will pull out.”
I wake up in my room.
The IV is stuck in the crook of my arm!
I was in absolute pain every. For one and a half hours!
To the hospital I hollered.
In the ER I hollered.
By now I am screaming at the top of my lungs. An electric elephant was sitting on my chest and doing the tango.
I learned later that my heart rate was 228 instead of the normal rate is 100 – 150.
I had VT –Ventricular Tachycardia. Translated it means pain from hell.
This particular grey, gloomy day went on for one and one-half hours!
God, I hurt. I screamed, I swore, and I kicked.
“ What the heck happened?” I asked the ER doctor.
I later realized they aren’t going to tell you anything. Nothin’
The regular doctor probably would have a fit if the ER doctor told me something that disagreed with what the regular wanted to say.
The ER doctors are too busy to answer questions anyway.
Well, I survived so I was happy. But that HURT!
Made it past that most unlucky day – my birthday.
November – FOURTH WEEK
It’s back. And with a vengeance.
One shock upon another. The nasty thing is – if it has to shock you twice – Yup you guessed it. The second one is a lot stronger than the first.
The doctor came down and presented a proposal.
He was going home for Christmas.
He would go to his Alma Mater and talk with his professors.
They might even suggest that I go to their facility for a procedure. (Geez a choice of U of Pitt or Loyola, which should I choose?)
One more blast right after Christmas dang I hope the doctor is back soon!
The new year.
Here it is– – the ninth.
Two! A double whammy. Bam! BAM!
Ambulance is on the way. Much too cold to have my wife drive.
In the morning of all the crazy things.
OK folks. I am not leaving here until this thing gets fixed!
Well I had to wait for quite a while.
Finally, the doctor showed up. He doesn’t have time to do it this week.
But, the soft-spoken doctor that saved me when I was in the ER he would take the old defibrillator out.
This guy with the spiky blond hair would do the ablation on Friday – his day off.
First I had to have an MRI.
Have you ever had an MRI? The technicians lay you on a table that is about 6 inches wide and that brings you into the guts of this huge drum.
It makes noise. LOUD Noise. Rattle, bang, BANG, shimmy. My goodness, you could go deaf listening to the tunes it plays.
The real nasty about the MRI – it is NARROW.
I am not a small guy. My shoulders are squished, my elbow rubs on the drum as it rotates. Elbows get carpet burns.
But I made it thru the claustrophobia.
MRI is done and I’m whisked off to another room. Lots of hustle and bustle as the guys strap me in and hook me up to tubes.
I sure hope they remember how to get me out of here. They work so fast!
All of sudden I’m not there anymore.
The doctor, an electrophysiologist, tells me he hasn’t been able to make my heart fail.
I’m still under the influence.
“I can’t make it stop. The ablation worked. I dug around a bit, pulled something out. You don’t need to wear a defibrillator anymore.”
WOW. Was that great news!
No more jolts followed by searing pain.
Got off the table. Got dressed. Met my wife at the main door.
I haven’t looked back.
Thanks for stopping.

I have been writing about trump since at least March of 2015. The research has been grueling but enlightening. Entertaining as I learned the tricks of the master fraud and disheartening as I have seen how many people still follow him.
What will be the outcome of the 2020 election. If he loses the vote will he surrender his throne as the preeminent facist American has known?
I did not realize that extremely intelligent scientists were studying the very topics that I was researching in my quest to understand.
I have only scratched the surface of all the studies that are available.
As you have read I am partial to the work of Dr. Bobby Azarian as published in Psychology Today.
Also David Dunning of the Dunning-Kruger Effect.
And so many other brilliant researchers that have been able to pinpoint the exact tools trump uses to bamboozle his loyalists.
These aren’t all stupid or dumb people. They are United States Senators and United States Congressman. Obviously many follow the follow money spread out by Russia as it seeks to dismantle its most feared enemy.
But then, how can Americans, many of them military, lay down their oaths they swore to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States and see it trampled by trump, putin and other despots.
Surely, there will be a serious hotseat in hell that awaits them.
How to understand why people would choose to follow trump. Why would they follow him after two years into his presidency when he was making me gag on his criminality?
How Trump hoodwinked his supporters
Dr. Azarian wrote an article that appeared in “Alternet” on July 23, 2018. The heading read:
“Those who score low on political knowledge overestimate their expertise more when greater empahsis is on political affliation.”
I stated this in the last post a different way “People that think they know what they are talking about, (those in trump’s sphere of influence) rarely know what they don’t know!
Does that make sense?
Maybe I should say “too dumb to know that they are too dumb”. A bit harsh? Maybe. This, you will recall, is the DUNNING-KRUGER EFFECT.
A new study by Ian Anson, a political scientist at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, ‘found that the Dunning Kruger Effect applies to politics, but it also appears to be exacerbated when partisan identies are more salient.’
Maybe try this: The more emphasis that is placed on political affiliation, the more those who score low on political knowledge the more they overestimate their expertise.
Is that better?
“Perhaps this helps explain why trump supporter seem to be tricked into believing obvious falsehoods.” Daniel Efron, London Business School, associate professor organizational behavior, Why Trump Supporters Don’t Mind His Lies, New York Times, April 28, 2018.
Deliver ‘alternative facts’ boisterously and sprinkle in some ‘dog whistles’ that appeal to their baser instincts and we see results like these:
“In 2016 and experiment found that 45% of Republicans believe the Affordable Care Act included ‘death panels’ and a 2015 study found that 54 percent of Republican primary voters believed then President Barach Obama to be a Muslim.”
Perhaps the scariest study was the one that found only 25% of Republicans believe human activity contributes to climate change.
Even more scary is the study that showed that in just two years 2015 to 2017 Republicans came to believe that 58% say that a college education “negatively impacts’ the state of the nation!
The last time I recall these activites George Wallace was hammering out ‘dog whistles’ to drump up support for his run at the presidency. An assassin’s bullet felled him before the votes were cast.
Now that we recognize these voices from the past have not been quieted or change how do we move on?
Fear-mongering is a powerful tool that has been used for a very long time. Fear has been the number 1 go-to emotion.
But the new tool of the political right is ANGER. It is the new tool to divide and conquer.
The politics of fear are pretty well understood so I will insert some scientific stuff now.
In the Journal ‘Cell Biology’ studies show that ‘liberalism is associated with a larger volume of gray matter in the anterior cingulate cortex. Conservatism is associated with an increase in the size of the right amygdala (but not the left amygdala). You can review the findings in this edition of Current Biology
I will leave this topic with this tidbit: “Stronger liberalism is associatated with increased sensitivity to cues for altering a habitual pattern.”
Conservative respond to threatening situations with more aggression than do liberals and are more sensitive to threatening facial expressions.
Trump is constantly fueling anger towards the media, and liberals whenever he feels he is being treated unfairly. The Washington Post lays out many of trump’s triggers and discusses their implications
Dr. Suhay (Elizabeth Suhay Ph.D. and Cengiz Erisen of American University are authors of an anger study and its role in political formation. Their results “suggest that both conservatives and liberals are experiencing great biased assimilation of political information.” To find out how anger fuels our political beliefs I suggest you dig into this a little bit.
A name you should familiarize yourself Glen Gerher Ph.D. How did we get so polarized and how do we undo it.
Trump is using oppenents toward more extreme political stances that are less popular with the average voter. We are starting to see this with the Democrats as they wrestle with impeachment or some other course of action. Of course we have to ask, can we stay calm rather than let our feathers get ruffled over trump’s hateful messages and his appeals to tribalism?
How do this all play out?
My great fear is how long will it take this country to stand tall again? How long will it take to right the ship of state.
It will never be held in the high regard it once was. It will never again be a beacon on a hill for other nations to follow.
How will our young people turn from the bitterness, the hatred, the anger, the atrocious deeds inspired by this lout?
Generations will ponder the solutions. I just hope they are smarter than I.
It is a subject that has turned my head inside out. The answers from this research are now starting to make sense.
How people could 1: believe in him in the first place; 2: vote for him; 3: continue to hold him up as the next messiah even though he has stomped on their dreams and finances so many times.
I have mentioned that I have relied on articles by Dr. Bobby Azarian, a neuroscientist, titled “Mind in the Machine” for documentation. I have also relied on my published posts for topics and research materials.
Some of the blog posts I have published on ‘dabblerduckbutts.com’ are:
“How do I Understand? aka New Information into Old Thinking” “How do we Recover? The Rise of the Intolerants”
“Who is this Man? akaRepitition Makes it So”
“My Rant 3 Let’s Talk” “Temper Tantrum”
“Cognitive Dissonance” Series
and many more.
I think you will find that a majority of posts to this site are in some way connected to trump. I hope this post draws them together so that they are not so far-flung and disorderly.
I had hoped this series would be a catharsis and I would be able to cast trump and his rats from my spirit. But I now fear that may not be so.
My hope is in the women. My hope is in the young people. My hope is in the millenlials whose own hope in earning a piece of the American Dream is dimming.
Hopefully they will step forward and step up to cast this blight and restore the old order in a new form.
I hope that never again will people not carry out their duty, their responsibility to seriously consider for whom they cast their vote.
The activities that have brought this division in our country to light are beyond counting. The upheaval is beyond measure.
Thanks for stopping.

I started researching and studying material on trump more than a year ago. Actually my first blog post was in Google’s Blogger in May 2016. I communicated with one other person regarding my dire misgivings regarding trump. I wish I had saved those original thoughts. Craig Martineau
republished 5/10/2019 (originally published on Hubpages January 2019)
I started this series as a continuation of two posts I had made on another blog “dabblerduckbutts.com:
How do I Understand? aka New Information into Old Thinking.com
How do We Recover? The Rise of the Intolerants.com
In the Prologue to this series, I defined “Deep State” as it was originally used and how I transferred the power of these words to be Trump’s activities since it describes “a clandestine
network entrenched inside the government “. (Dictionary.com)
In addition to the research I have done since the time trump started to run for the primary nomination (approximately March 2015), I have leaned heavily into the work of Dr. Bobby Azarian, a neuroscientist, for the post.
Dr. Azarian’s work is “Mind into Machine” and appeared in Psychology Today.
Dr. Azarian uses works by UC Santa Cruz psychologist and professor Thomas Pettigrew, psychologist Sheldon Solomon‘s work “Terror Management Theory” and psychologist David Dunning’s work “The Dunning-Kruger Effect“.
The first posts in this series discussed Dr. Azarian’s topics:
Practicality Trumps Morality
The Brain’s Attention System is more Strongly Engaged by Trump
America’s Obsession with Entertainment and Celebrities
“Some Men Just Want to Watch the World Burn”
The Fear Factor: Conservatives are more Sensitive to Threats
The Dunning-Kruger Effect: Humans often Overestimate Their Political Expertise
Relative Deprivation – A Misguided Sense of Entitlement
Lack of Exposure to Dissimilar Others
Trump’s Conspiracy Theories Target the Mentally Vulnerable
I am going to continue with a few new topics. The last post in this series will complete Dr. Azarian‘s main topics and I will introduce a few new ones.
10. Trump Taps into the Nation’s Collective Narcissism:
This narcissism is the shared belief “in the greatness of one’s national group”. We have seen how the unrealistic belief, I label it a curse, has been unleashed many times in our history.
A study published in 2017 in the Journal “Social Psychological and Personality Science“ found a direct link ‘direct link between national collective narcissism and support for Donald Trump’ by Thomas F Pettigrew.
“Collective Narcissism involves negative attitudes and aggression toward ‘outside’ groups who are perceived as threats.”
Trump “exacerbates collective narcissism with his anti-immigrant, anti-elitist, and strongly nationalist rhetoric.”
He refers to his supporters as true patriots or “real Americans” and pushes his brand of superiority, success and wealth.
12. The Desire to Want to Dominate Others:
This desire is “a distinct trait similar to an authoritarian personality.” It “refers to people who have a preference for the social hierarchy of groups.”
These groups have a high social status and trumpet their dominance over low-status groups. These people are “typically dominant, tough-minded, and driven by self-interest”.
A 2016 study in “Science Direct” compared cognitive (relating too) ability and authoritarianism to understand support for Trump and Clinton.
Some of the first recollections I had of trump was his “grand sense of self” especially as he compared himself to others.
I cannot imagine how people work for this man. He is domineering, ‘bossy’, heartless and I could go on and on.
This study test “two ideological beliefs, right-wing authoritarianism, and social dominance orientation“.
The results are illuminating.
High right-wing authoritarianism and social dominance predicted that people had more favorable attitudes of trump.
Lower cognitive ability predicted that people would have greater intentions to vote for trump and lower intentions to vote for Clinton.
Why is this not a surprise? I believe this study and others point to results I think are pretty self- evident.
As we go to the next points, try to tie them back, in your mind, to earlier discussion threads to see if you too find the truths almost self-evident.
13. Authoritarian Personality:
This explains trump’s and also his follower’s tendencies to be obsessed with rulers like Putin, Xi Jinping, and Duterte of the Philipines.
Please take note that ‘authoritarianism refers to the advocacy of strict obedience to authority
at the expense of personal freedom and is associated with the lack of concern for the opinions or needs of others”.
Authoritarianism is not only displayed by the ruler, i.e. trump, but also by his supporters.
As trump drags our federal workers through his shutdown not only does his disregard for the welfare of others shine through his actions but we see the same characteristics in many of the Republican legislators that don’t stand up even for their own constituents.
Wikipedia defines ‘authoritarian personality’ as a belief in total and complete obedience to authority. It is displayed in “aggression to outgroup members, submissiveness to authority, resistance to new experiences and a rigid hierarchical view of society.”
“Authoritarianism is triggered by a fear which makes it easy for leaders who exaggerate threats or fear monger to gain their allegiance.”
In my post “How do we Recover? The Rise of the Intolerants we see that these people are willing to overthrow the democracy they were raised in for a total and usually cruel rule of a dictator.
I think the relationship between Hitler and Joseph Goebbels illustrates this precisely (see my blog post “Who is the Man? aka Repetitions Make It So.com” dated August 8, 2018.)
Goebbels slavishly followed Hitler and lifted him in grand spectacles of the Third Reich.
If you are interested in an in-depth study of authoritarianism I recommend: “The F Scale as a Predictor of Fascism: An Overview of 40 Years of Authoritarian Research” . The author is Joseph Meleon
Trump laces his speech with absolutist terms like “losers” and “complete disasters”. His loyal supporters lap this slop up like rabid dogs.
Matthew Mac Williams in a Politico article, defined the trait predicts whether you are a trump supporter. In fact, that is the title of his article “The One Weird Trait That Predicts Whether You’re a Trump Supporter“ published January 17, 2018.
Care to guess the trait? Authoritarianism followed by terrorism.
Trump plays directly to these inclinations of his supporters at his pep rallies.
A surprising fact: the political scientist Professor Marc Hetherington “found that authoritarianism matters more than income, ideology, gender, age, and education ” that predicted whether voters preferred Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.”
Max Boot in The Washington Post December 11, 2018 America Now has a Party of Authoritarianism ” after 14 years of polling, authoritarians have steadily moved from the Democratic to the Republican Party.”
The Corruption of the Republican Party George Packer December 14, 2018 The Atlantic.
In the last post in this series I will attempt to wrap up the salient points and further impress upon you what is at stake in the election of 2020.

I can’t stop. I originally published this post in Hubpages in January 2019. I have been researching and studying the material for over a year. Hopefully you will find it as addicting and SCARY as I have. Craig Martineau
In the Prologue, I explained my choice of the title: Trump’s Deep State. The dictionary.com’s definition of ‘deep state’ we found that the origin of the term is from the secret Turkish network known as derindevlet.
This group was founded in 1923 by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk with the purpose of undertaking clandestine acts to preserve the current government structure.
If you have followed Rudy Guglani’s antics on television trying to obfuscate the activities (most illegal) of the trump administration you have seen how trump is using the deep state to subvert the government of the United States of America.
The Last Hurrah
I keep saying I am going to clean out my WordPress blog of all the political stuff so that I can unhook myself from the depressing topic of trump.
But one last hurrah – this series may be my catharsis – I hope.
I have spent over a year researching the question: “How did Trump attract such a following, why, and why do they continue to support him?”
This series will be my final post on the downfall of America. However, I retain the right to comment again as that day gets closer.
I have to find a real part-time job so I can supplement our Social Security income. THAT isn’t much fun to live on.
I believe that trump (Note the t is not capitalized. I cannot give him even that much respect.) will dismantle the federal government. The Republicans will grab the pieces and privatize them. That is their ticket for staying with trump. They will get rich of the skeleton.
How can I say that?
Just today in the Huffington Postthere is an article titled ” Republicans Cynically Demonized Government for Decades. The Shutdown Belongs to them.” (dated Jan 23, 2019).
Several bits from that post: Reagan’s catchphrase that Republicans still parrot “Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”
Republican plutocrats like “the Koch brothers have spent millions convincing ordinary Americans that government is the enemy”.
They have been successful. “A 2015 Gallup poll showed that 57% of Americans favor reducing the size of government.”
A real telltale doozy “Cut it or shut it” Mike Pence chortled in 2011.
A jarring tidbit “96 percent of trump supporters expressed generalized anger at federal policies.”
Real scary but true “many Americans who benefit from government assistance are literally in denial. “The classic example is the angry constituent who told his congressman “Keep your government hands off my Medicare. But this ignorance is too pervasive to amuse.
In 2011, Cornell political scientist Suzanne Mettler surveyed the number of recipients of government benefits who deny receiving benefits. The current political circumstance is an existential threat to American democratic order.
The numbers are shocking: depending on the program, they include a range of 50 to 65 percent of those that benefit from 529 tuition savings plans, the home mortgage deduction, student loans, or childcare tax credits; 40 to 50 percent of those receiving Social Security, Pell Grants, unemployment insurance, veterans’ benefits; and 25 to 40 percent of those receiving Medicare, Medicaid, and food stamps.”
“Left unanswered was whether these folks believed their benefactor was the Easter Bunny or the Tooth Fairy!”
“These delusions are particularly prevalent in red states, which contribute the least in federal revenues and rely most heavily on federal services.”
You will note that Republicans are the ones most frequently scapegoating federal employees.
An article by nbcnews.com heralds the statement that the trump admin is planning on many more weeks of the shutdown.
One last tidbit showing the immense control trump has over the republican party. “The RNC just voted unanimously” to cancel the 2020 Republican Primary so trump would be able to run unopposed.
Back to Dr. Bobby Azarian:
8. Relative Deprivation – A Misguided Sense of Entitlement:
This is a main topic of one of my blog posts.
“Relative deprivations refers to the experience of being deprived of something to which you believed that you are entitled to.”
“It is the discontent felt when you compare your position in life to others” who you feel are unequal or inferior to you. But these people have more success than you.
This is common in “swing states like Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania.”
These feelings can be economic, racial, immigrant-based. These feelings ignore the fact you are not keeping pace with the ‘accelerating pace of education.
I cover this subject in a blog post “Capitalism Overreach and the West Virginia Coal Mines” explores how we will repeat the plight of the coal miners. They saw the 20th Century pass them by.
We will witness this as the Fourth Industrial Revolution pass our citizens by.
9. Lack of Exposure to Dissimilar Others:
“Racial and ethnic isolation of Whites at the zip-code level is one of the strongest predictors of trump support.” Enough said.
10. Trump’s Conspiracy Theories Target the Mentally Vulnerable:
They may appear to be just odd quirks in modern society but the followers of crackpot allies of trump “and like Alex Jones and the shadowy QAnon” some may have psychological illnesses like paranoia, delusions like schizophrenia, or at least are vulnerable to them.
I wondered as I read that farmers in Iowa have been kicked in the teeth by trump but will still vote for him. Do they suffer from this?
The link between schizotypy and belief in conspiracy theories is well-established. A study in the Journal “Psychiatry Research“ shows that this condition is still very prevalent in the population.
Other things this personality type may believe in magical thinking, the government created the AIDS epidemic, etc.
Trump and his media allies “target these people directly.”
Visit the alt-right websites and discussion boards to the evidence of this manipulation.
There are additional topics that range from trump tapping into the nation’s narcissism to understanding the racist brain.
I will follow up with those and more shortly.
Thanks for stopping.

This post is part of a series that I published in Jan 2019.
I have studied and researched material on trump since March 2015. I hope that I will be able to find that material.
The events of the last few weeks increase the urgency of republishing this material so that ‘normal’ people, who may not give a hoot about politics have a touchstone where they can find out how trump amassed his loyalists, to include senators and congressman, and how he keeps them in line.
This post is surgically removed from a post published in Hubpages in January. I also added a little more meat to meat to flesh out some earlier hints as to the direction we are heading.
I am leaning heavily on articles by Dr. Bobby Azarian published in Psychology Today. He also leans on fellow researcher David Dunning for the Dunning- Kruger Effect.
I realize that this material is above the reading level in which I usually publish. In fact, as I re-read it is absolutely brutal to understand. But I hope that you will bear with me.
Perhaps you will even offer suggestions on how I can make this presentation easier to read inside of being the heavy tome that it is.
Hopefully, this series will be a catharsis. I want to put my angst about trump to bed at least until it gets closer to the elections.
I am sure you are aware of how taxing his pronunciations can be: without merit, without sound reasoning and without a shred of good public speaking skills. In addition, his shills such as Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Bill Barr, Ruby Guiliani, Bob Jordan, Mark Meadows et al. add to his crassness and bellicosity.
Let’s crank up this machine again and move along in our effort to dismantle trump.
A short review:
I have appropriated trump’s term ‘Deep State’ to describe how his machinations have infiltered and seized the inner workings of our government from food safety inspections (the lack thereof); barbaric treatment of immigrants especially along our Southern Border; his idiotic foreign policy which relies on his supposed personal relationships which dictators and fascists.
A case in point is the increase in the tariffs on Chinese imports. To quell their appropriation of our technology he beats up the average American citizen instead of fashioning policies to deal with the actual problems.
China retaliates by not purchasing our farmers’ soybeans because he did not target the real item of his wrath so now he puts farmers on welfare and pays them what they would have earned had he not deconstructed the market system.
Oh, I could go on but let’s return to how and what means trump has used to get the US into this mess.
In addition to Dr. Azarian’s research and others that I mention in this series, I need to make you aware of even stronger research.
An article in The Washington Post on January 23, 2016, by Jacob Bogage, tells the story of neuroscientist Ryan McGarry who applies so electrodes to your head, show you a video clip and can tell who you are going to vote for. SCARY?
Maybe we can discover how trump won without dissecting millions of brains.
An article in Politico Magazine by David Dunning on May 2016 introduces us to the
A brief glimpse at this postulate and then we will come back to it.
The Dunning Kruger Effect states: Humans often Overestimate Their Political Expertise. Indeed people are unaware of how misinformed they actually are!.
Other points that we need to consider:
The Power of Mortality Reminders and Perceived Existential Threats
Relative Deprivation – A Misguided Sense of Entitlement
Lack of Exposure to Dissimilar Other
Trump’s Conspiracy Theories Target the Mentally Vulnerable.
I tried to make this short since the preceding posts have been pretty ugly. I hope that you will refresh and come back to join me for more of this series.
Thanks for stopping.

Trump doesn’t like the term ‘Deep State’. He thinks it ‘sounds so conspiratorial’ (‘The Hill Rising’ with Krystal & Buck January 16, 2019).
I can’t let go. There is just somethin’… These posts are based on more than a year’s research. I originally posted them on Hubpages in January 2019. Craig Martineau
Deep State “What Does it Mean”
‘Deep State is believed to be a clandestine network entrenched inside the government.” (www.dictionary.com/e/politics/deep-state/)known as derin devlet.
This group was founded in 1923 by Mustafa Kemal Ataturk with the purpose of undertaking clandestine acts to preserve the current government structure.
Deep State today is usually used in the context of Trump’s enemies.
I have turned him on his head and use it to describe HIS activities, personnel HE uses to subvert the government of the United States of America.
Last weekend, Friday, January 11th, 2019 The New York Times started an avalanche of articles, discussions, and arguments with the story on Trump as an asset of Russia.
This was an exciting story over the weekend. But it was nothing new to me. I have believed since at least March or May of 2015 when I started to write a blog exposing him as a malignant narcissist and enemy of the United States. I am searching for that material so I can reprint it.
It is an important background to my current belief that trump is doing no less than dismantling the Federal Government!
I believe it explains the expose by The New Times, the actions of trump in starting and prolonging this shut down of the Federal Government. I believe it also explains why the Republicans have not come to the aid of the United States.
The Republicans or Republicrooks as I have named them are aiding and abetting his conspiracies and criminality because they will snatch up the pieces that are left and privatize those parts to their great profit.
So What Are Your Thoughts???
My Post after MUCH Jamming and Studying
I have not understood how trump (notice the ‘t’ is not capitalized) is able to keep up to 45% of the US voting population tied to his apron strings.
I have written at least two posts to my WordPress blog ‘dabblerducksbutts.com’. “How Do I Understand? aka New Information into Old Thinking”. The second post is “How do We Recover: The Rise of the Intolerants.
I found an article in the online magazine “Cognoscenti” that had an article by Julie Wittes Schlack. Julie Wittes Schlack I Keep Trying To Understand Trump Voters, But I Keep Failing | Cognoscenti She distills the information from a book “Strangers in their Own Land” by Arlie Russell Hochschild. Arlie Russell Hochschild “Strangers in Their Own Land “| The New Press The crux of the book is that people shoehorn new information into old beliefs. This causes them to vote against their own best interests.
An example is that they will vote against their economic needs to fulfill their emotional needs!
“The Deep Story” on these people stays “focused on the American Dream: the idea that, if you work hard and play by the rules, you can have a better life,”
In the 21st Century their long-held dream is now shattered!
I will spell that out more clearly in the next post on this subject.
The next major AHA! moment I had while trying to untangle the mystery of trump’s supporters (I have named them ‘jockstraps’). This moment is revealed in my post “How Do I Understand? New Information into Old Thinking.
Another blockbuster (to my mind) is my post “How do We Recover? The Rise of the Intolerants”.
I found an article by Noah Berlatsky “The Trump Effect: New Study connects White American Intolerance and Support for Authoritarianism.”The Trump Effect by Noah Berlatsky
Mr. Berlatsky’s “research suggests that when intolerant white people fear democracy they abandon their commitment to democracy“.
Hillary Clinton decried the ‘Deplorables” during the campaign of 2016. I now call them the ‘Intolerants.”
This theory is also described in greater length later in this series of posts but it distills down to ” I am entitled to my dream which promises a living and certain comforts. I will not let people less than me (blacks and browns) come in and take that dream from me. (Reason #8 see in the next post.)
Continued in the next post
Please follow me as we will delve into the reasons why trump’s ‘Deep State’ acts as they do.
I will use as the base of discussion the works of Dr. Bobby Azarian in “Psychology Today”.
Thanks for stopping.

Last evening I bumped into YouTube videos on The War in Vietnam. This was apropos for engaging in Memorial Day sentiments.
I was hooked into that war. I was the levy clerk at an Army post and it was my responsibility to send enlisted men over to Vietnam among other places.
Towards the end of my one year, eight months and twenty-two days of drafted service, in addition, I started to process officers.
That war means more than just words on a page. As I have only shared that side with only a few select people, one of whom is my psychiatrist, I will not be exploring that minefield here.
As I stated, I watched several excellent videos on the war and posted them on Facebook. I do not know if anyone watched them, I didn’t get any feedback but that is not important.
What was important was that I sent out memorable moments that were excellent examples of what our focus has been on Memorial Days.
The next morning I had a rude awakening.
BAM! I barely got my eyes open and focused when I read Trump’s sick excuse for a tribute to men and women who have given their lives so he can twist and turn the Constitution to line his pockets.
Later in the day as my bride and I were unpacking items we were moving into our new home, a two-bedroom apartment, I took a break and opened this article.
This article expresses my concerns to the nth degree. I had to share it with most of my family and fired off the article to two brothers who will jump on me for my sentiments.
Very seldom do I hear blowback for any of the articles on posts to Facebook.
My position is that if someone is carping about Trump I will unfriend him because I don’t have time to waste on arguments that will not shed a ray of light into that person’s brain.
I will get back to the core of the article but there are at least two avenues to follow that will shed light on this analysis.
The first is an article by Noah Berlastky ” The Trump Effect: New Study connects White American Intolerance and Support for Authoritarianism”. This article is available on NBC “Think” at nbc.com dated May 27, 2018.
“The research suggests that when intolerant white people fear democracy may benefit marginalized people they abandon their commitment to democracy.”
Until now their response has been unfathomable. The more Trump abuses immigrants the his “base’ love him.
“Intolerant White People”. What a great label! I have been trying and failing to find a label that fits.
So as Hilary exclaimed “Deplorables” I now call the “Intolerants“.
Part of the reason Trump can get away with what he does is that his base is pleased.
All he has to do is stage a campaign rally (which is illegal), holler about immigrants (racism is illegal), point to suspected ‘spies’ on his campaign trail (illegal? -slandering another agency of government).
” The GOP has dug itself into such a hole on this that the most practical effort to stave off these impending losses is to disenfranchise the votes of the same ethnic/racial outgroups against whom the GOP messaging has been stoking animosity.”
What does this mean?
Republicans know they are at risk in the 2018 Mid-term elections.
How do they handle that? They set up voter suppression for people that they know will vote against them.
If they can’t vote, they can’t vote against them.
This cuts out Blacks, Native Americans, and a lot of other minorities.
What we know is that in 2006 John Dean (Mr. Dean of Watergate infamy) wrote a book “Conservatives without a Conscience”.
A quick read of the book’s highlights:
“Studies reveal that authoritarians are frequently enemies of freedom, anti-democratic, anti-equality, highly prejudiced, mean-spirited, power hungry, Machiavellian, and amoral. They are also “conservatives without a conscience”.
Another telling excerpt: they “define themselves by what they oppose, which is anything and everything they perceive to be liberal. This can be Democrats or anyone they disagree with.”
So, those of us that are of a liberal or progressive ilk that cannot understand how Trumpsters can turn a blind eye and ear to everything we see as wrong.
What’s wrong with Trump?
We now know how to reach the “Intolerants“.
This important study confirms what we’ve known (see ‘Conservatives Without a Conscience, 2006).
It is past time to recognize it is not Trump’s “nationalism” that threatens our well being, it is his “authoritarianism“, with his fear-filled followers.
“Liberalism, Conservatism and the Intellectuals” a lecture by Paul Starr February 8th, 1995 at New York University Institute for the Humanities, in a lecture on “Intellectuals and Public Life”.
Mr. Starr enlightens his audience with tales of the Liberal Intellectual past and Conservative Intellectuals present. If you check the date it is 1995.
I thought I had found my answer when these “Intolerants” had taken shape around 2006 of John Dean’s book.
Now here I find the underlying currents of social conservatism and conservative (the new not the historical conservative thought) thought was well developed by 1995.
I have been scratching my head for the last two years wondering how in the world I had missed the signs of the deep unrest presented by Trumpsters.
The history and ideals I grew up with are now dead. Maybe not dead yet, but on life support.
I have often asked myself, this person and I grew up together and went to the same schools how did he end up taking a left turn that is so different?
Well, now it seems both of us were just listening to different drumbeats that were pounding through this country.
A deeper look into John Dean’s book on page 43 discussed the work of Stanley Milgram.
Through Mr. Milgram’s observations and tests, he asserts that the ‘work that ordinary people, doing their jobs, without any particular hostility on their part, can become agents in a terribly destructive process. It is very difficult for a remarkable number of people, to disobey authority figures, but quite easy for them to set aside their conscience.” (underlining is mine)
Still, deeper in the book, Mr. Dean takes up the study of “The Authoritarian Personality“. Some people may be “proud to be individualists but live in constant fear of not being like others”. They are jealous of other’s independence because “they themselves are inclined to submit blindly to power and authority.”
A fascinating tidbit “Authoritarianism is consistently associated with right-wing but not left-wing ideology”.
We have taken a turn around the country looking at modern conservatism and social conservatism (read alt-right religion).
We have undertaken to understand how two people who grew up in the same town, with the same teachers could now have two so opposing views.
One clinging to what may be a dying ideal – liberalism, and the other the rising tide of authoritarianism taking control of our country.
Just to reinforce the absolute scariness of what I have been reading I am going to quote from the Abstract of Study by Steven V. Miller and Nicholas T. Davis “White Outgroup Intolerance and Declining Support for American Democracy” date May 31, 2018.
“Social Intolerance embodies an unwillingness to associate or fraternize with individuals whose cultural, racial, or religious ideas or ways differ from one’s own group.”
Using World Values Surveys from 1995 to 2011, we find intolerance toward cultural, ethnic, or racial ‘others’ reduces the value that white Americans assign to democracy.
This means that white Americans, the “Intolerants” are willing to devalue the separation of powers and to support Authoritarian Rule.
What is authoritarianism?
Google defines it as “the enforcement or advocacy of strict obedience to authority at the expense of personal freedom. A lack of concern for the wishes and opinions of others.”
Do you find this as scary as I do?
I, along with the press and most people that stand against Trump denigrate his supporters as the 33 million or 30% of the electorate that is his base.
How naive I have been.
We are not faced with a political division we know and understand.
I now believe we are faced with a very real menace to democracy in America.
Wikipedia expands on ‘authoritarianism’ is a form of government characterized by strong central power and limited political freedoms, individual freedoms are subordinate to the state and there is no Constitutional Accountability under an authoritarian regime.” (highlighting is mine)
Just today there was an article about the Government Accounting Office not receiving information from the White House.
What does this mean?
The White House is telling us they don’t have to follow the rules.
Hasn’t this been Trump’s modus operandi?
He doesn’t play by the cultural norms that earlier presidents have followed.
He plays by his own rules.
The so-called Republican party lets him.
Because they are not the Republican Party any longer.
Today John Boehner, former Speaker of the House, slammed the Republican Party “There is no Republican Party. There’s a Trump Party. The Republican Party is kind of taking a nap somewhere”.
There is no Republican Party.
There is a Trump Party. It is an Authoritarian Party.
This is an animal that the press isn’t talking about.
This is an animal the Democrats aren’t talking about.
So if no one is addressing the real problems how is it going to get fixed?
In an article today in Vox by Matthew Yglesias, the headline reads “The raging of controversy over whether to call Trump’s lies “lies” explained”.
Mr. Yglesias turned my head a few times. I guess I didn’t understand where he was going with his examples and explanations.
He identified where first Trump used lying to gain power in his first book “Art of the Deal”. He admitted to routinely lying about important matters in a sworn deposition.
He continues to disregard the truth and no one calls him on it. Mr. Yglesias also states “in addition to being a liar, Trump is unusually ill-informed about public policy.”
He says “that even the New York Times euphemistically referred to “unconfirmed accusations” rather than say baseless conspiracy theories.”
Mr. Yglesisas shares glaring examples of Trumps lies but he ends his piece “Nobody can stop him from acting this way if he wants to, but we need not act naive about it. When a hardcore serial liar says something new, treat his claim with the extreme skepticism it deserves.”
We know Trump is a liar.
We know that the Republican or what was the Republican Party doesn’t hold to their constitutional duty to make sure that the rule of law is followed.
We know that the Trump Party is moving away from democratic principles toward an authoritarian government.
What else do we know?
We know that Trump is Evil.
I started this post relating that I had read an article “This administration isn’t Simply “Corrupt” – by Any Definition it’s Evil. OpEdNews 5/31/2018
I will return to that for a few minutes before concluding this post.
Trump’s policy of snatching children from the arms of parents as they cross the border is EVIL.
Trump’s policy of not supporting American Citizens in Puerto Rico has become publicized.
Over 4,500 people have died because his idea of helping them was to throw paper towels at them. 4,500 people sacrificed so this liar that is claiming to be president can ignore them. EVIL.
Trump’s policy of undermining the Freedom of the Press by throwing bombs at them is a flagrant abuse of the Constitution regarding the Fourth Estate. This is EVIL.
Trump’s policy of undermining the FBI, the Justice Department, even the Attorney General of the United States is a flagrant abuse of the Constitutions. It is EVIL.
The author of record for the article “This Administration Isn’t Simply Corrupt- it is Evil” originally appeared in the Daily Kos and it is attributed to Dartagnan (Comte D’artagnan was Captain of the Musketeers of the Guard to King Louis XIV).
That author makes the point that “the distinguishing feature of evil is that it causes unnecessary, arbitrary harm to others.”
He continues “The Holocaust is trotted out when people need to grasp the conveying extent of evil. The Holocaust is the most vivid and well-known manifestation of evil in the past hundred years, the only time frame of reference for everyone alive in the world.”
I was concerned well before the campaign was underway. In May 2015 I blogged against the fascism I saw Trump cavorting in public.
After researching for this post I learned about how the Republican Party started way back in 1995 to eschew democratic ideals and lay the groundwork for the government we see today.
That John Dean wrote a book in 2006 “Conservatives Without a Conscience” and the Democrats didn’t line up to rail against the real and growing threat of Authoritarianism is inexcusable.
But the real question is: How do we recover?
Even if the Democrats succeed in overturning the Republican Congress how does that change the landscape?
Thanks for stopping by.
Another temper tantrum.
Why does it always have to be this way?
I just open my mouth and the volcano erupts spewing hot venom from one end of the house to another.
Why do I feel challenged all of the time? Why can’t I just have a conversation in a normal tone of voice?

I just discovered two sites that contain fountains of knowledge, “BigThink” and “The Conversation”. I want to devote a whole post just to pry open the lid on the information available on these sites. Amazing!
Both of these sites collect professional, academic topics and distills them for lay people. Very instrumental in explaining the hot topics of today.
The drumbeat tempo is picking up. Faster. More intense.
I am speaking of Trump’s efforts to derail the Mueller investigation. How do we know that?
He has slammed his new mouthpiece – Giuliani – shut.
The ‘Go-to-Lawyer’ renowned for successfully battling mob bosses into a whimper is now on the back burner. He is not up to corralling Mueller.
He has also sent the vice president of Donald Trump (in contrast to his title “Vice-President of the United States) to mouth words that first issued by Richard Nixon. Almost word for word. “It is time…”. “We have cooperated…”. and on and on.
C’mon guys. Such drivel.
Except that the base is lapping it up. As are the Republicans in Congress. Fox News is the lapdog panting at the master’s commands.
The American public or at least some of it has been here before.
Now a new iron in the fire to be wary of. The rush to war with Iran. Trump believes that a Commander-in-Chief will not be tried during wartime.
I sure hope he is wrong.
He has put the lives of so many young Americans at risk. It is unconscionable.
That the lives of Israelis and Iranians are at risk even sooner is unconscionable.
That Republicans are deserting the ‘rule of law‘ at an ever faster pace is even more unconscionable.
Why can they not do their jobs?
These members of Congress must be on the hook to Trump for something. I think it is mainly due to the fact that they want to continue to receive campaign funds from corporations and individuals that they gave such a huge tax break to back in December 2017.
Remember all the raises and bonuses that were going to flow out from the generosity of corporations big hearts?
That money has rewarded the owners and stockholders by companies buying back stock so as to increase the value of the stocks they own. Some much for the windfall for the American Taxpayer.
And they are still trying to peddle that drivel.
These companies are thwarting the will of the American people. This has been going on since the first payoff to the wealthy and corporations by Reagan and now with the $1.5 trillion gift from the Republicans.
They have been very successful in thumbing their noses at the taxpayers. But I think that may soon end. Taxpayers put up with an immense amount of tomfoolery and criminality but even they will awaken.
What they forget is the stench emanating from Trump’s swamp is stronger even than during Nixon’s reign of the ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’.
Above the law. Wiggle out from under the law. Then Nixon found out he was wrong.
A major thorn in my brain is the lawyer and Harvard Law professor and civil liberties lion, Alan Dershowitz.
Mr. Dershowitz is profiled in the article “What Happened to Alan Dershowitz” published on politico magazine.com.
This insightful article on article on Mr. Dershowitz was written by Evan Mandery, May 11, 2018.
Alan Dershowitz has been a lion as a strong advocate for civil liberties.
As a criminal defense attorney, he was on the legal team of OJ Simpson. He defended and gained the acquittal of Claus von Bulow.
His career goes back to 1963 when he was a law clerk for Supreme Court Justice Arthur Goldberg.
He drafted a memo crucial to the death penalty being overturned when it was ruled unconstitutional.
Evan Mandrey portrays his public persona as “loud, provocative, brilliant and principled.”
Mr. Mandrey also notes that Mr. Dershowitz is ‘relentlessly self-promoting” and tolerated by the legal profession because his “legal arguments have been acknowledged for their moral seriousness.”
Recently he has been arguing “that a sitting president could not be guilty of obstruction of justice.” (WHAT ???)
He has been shunned by friends of the civil libertarian persuasion.
Indeed, Jeffrey Toobin, a legal analyst for CNN confronted him directly on Anderson Cooper 360, “I don’t know what’s going on with you…this is not who you used to be.”
Mr. Dershowitz does not see himself as a turncoat. He’s waging war against what he sees are liberals who have “dropped their principles in a moment of political threat and are taking out their anger on a man who has been their (the liberals) staunchest ally.”
From a constitutional rights perspective, I can’t give a qualified answer on his positions regarding Trump since I am not an attorney under White House retainer.
From a civil rights perspective, I can’t give a qualified answer since I am not an attorney under a branch of government.
My understanding is: under the rules of governing you have to perform on the world stage in a manner that is above suspicion and reproach. Even a hint of a scandal should end your career.
I am not going to get into his legal arguments because I can’t accept them let alone try to explain them since they are foreign concepts to me.
Suffice it to say, I reject his positions as a ‘cop-out’ against a very real threat to American democracy.
I don’t understand how a legal scholar and practitioner can, in good conscience, fight on the side of Trump.
Just as Nixon found that he was boxed in by his illegal actions, I believe Trump will be found out for his collusion and even treasonous actions.
Whether the Republicans in Congress will vote with their conscience or their wallet remains to be seen.
Trump with his abdication of the Iran deal which prevented them from building nuclear weapons has aimed the children of the United States and Israel and Saudia Arabia on a course that will end in combat.
The children of the United States won’t have to worry about all the jobs being lost (to artificial intelligence and machine learning) and because of Trump’s ill-considered trade war with China.
What better way to take a person’s mind off not having a job – throw them in a foxhole.
I wrote a blog post regarding the children of the United States being relentlessly killed by mass murderers. In that post, I also laid out a way to return our country from the grips of the 1%.
I also showed how, by standing up to wealthy and the corporations, the citizens of this country were able to wrest control from the greedy and return it to the real wealth of this country – its people. For a short time but nonetheless, the will of the people overcame greed.
The future our democracy is at risk. That is hard to say and harder to imagine. But the trend speaks for itself.
The children won’t have to worry about jobs – they will be sent into combat instead.
Since the gutless and immoral wonders that are the Republicans in Congress won’t stand up to Trump the die is cast.
Citizens United has freed money to flow from the wealthy to politicians without regard for controls, influence pedaling and outright fraud and corruption.
We are witnessing the results of that horrific Supreme Court decision in 2010. The Supreme Court opened the spigots of uncontrolled money to influence politicians to the detriment of the ordinary citizens.
I cannot see how any other administration can be more corrupt than this one.
What will stop the deepening of the swamp?
Is it ever going to be drained?
It will implode from the weight of its corruption.
What the pundits are missing. And what the current Republicans are ignoring is that sons and daughters will be sent into harm’s way.
Voter suppression? Republicans believe in it.
Racism? Republicans believe in it.
Bribery? Republicans believe in it.
Those of you that are old enough, remember the build-up in January 1967.
The first of the large-scale operations.
The first Search and Destroy campaigns.
The first large numbers of US troops killed.
There were 480,000 US troops in South Vietnam at this time.
At its peak, the number was 549,500. (1969 and the war cost $77.4 that year; Total killed in Vietnam: 58,148; One out of Ten was a casualty; Total Wounded: 304,000; Severely Disabled: 75,000; Homeless in 2018: 39,471 on any given night (all conflicts); PTSD: one study showed TWO THIRDS of Iraqi War and Afgan War suffer from PTSD ( other surveys show between 8 and 13%
There are currently 1.3 million military personnel. 450,000 are deployed overseas.
Now add in hotspots that are quickly escalating. Watch Israel, Saudia Arabia, Nigeria in addition to Iran.
Watch again the Vietnam experience.
Less than one year after the first large-scale operations in Vietnam, the March on the Pentagon woke people up. October 21, 1967, 2,500 US soldiers watched as 100,000 protesters descended on them.
March on the Pentagon 2,500 troops against 100,000 protesters
Flower Power was born!
One year later the Tet Offensive exploded. The American public started to not believe what the military and the government were telling them. America was NOT winning the war.
May 4, 1970
Mary Ann Vecchio a 14-year-old runaway at the body of Jeffry Miller
The Murdered at Kent State and the fuel it fed to protesters “They Can’t Kill Us All”
The result of the Massacre?
450 college campuses were closed as protesters increased the drumbeat.
Chuck Colson, Counsel to Nixon went to the basement of the Executive Office Building and encountered the 82 Airborne which was on standby. He remarked ” This can’t be the United States of America. This is not the greatest free democracy in the world. This is a nation at war with itself.” “Nixon: A Presidency Revealed” Broadcast February 2007
By 1973 there were 50 US troops in South Vietnam.
How do the words of Chuck Colson resonate with you? (He would later serve prison time for his role in the Watergate Breakin)
” A Nation at War with Itself”
It is always a challenge to affix the label “The Beginning of the End” after the fact. To label is at it happens is, even more, a fool’s errand.
I will spare the pundits the chore of affixing the label in future years.
I will affix it for them.
In a pre-dawn interview, Mike Pence called for an end to the Mueller Investigation.
He used almost the exact words of Nixon those many years ago. Nothing has changed.
Money still rules.
Corruption is at a scale never seen before, even in the Nixon years.
When politicians, probably unknowingly, use the same words used by a major crook that was brought down. A new beginning is taking place.
Faced with the documents showing that not only AT&T and Novartis among other companies engaged Michael Cohen, “Trump’s attorney for favors”, but also a Russian Oligarch, Viktor Vekselberg also channeled money to Michael Cohen in the amount of $500,000, Pence has the gall to accuse Mueller to ‘wrap up’ the witchhunt?
By extension, Pence is also calling on all Americans that are lining up to accuse the Trump administration and it’s unholy cohorts, to cease and desist.
Americans don’t have the right to hold their government accountable?
More Republicans start to beat down Mueller and the investigation as merely a witchhunt.
Why am I so bold in my labeling May 10, 2018, as the beginning of the end?
First, it is the day I started to write this post.
Secondly, there are powerful forces working in the undercurrent of Trump’s wave “Make America Great Again”.
Two very important forces are moving thru history. There is a third but it is not as much as the other two.
Reason #3: Republicans are more corrupt now than at any other time I have watched politics unfold. Not even during the Nixon era were the Republicans as corrupt as they are now.
Paul Ryan may be leaving Congress but he is still leaving his corrupt footprint for history to follow.
Three days ago a party led by Ryan and including Norm Coleman a Minnesota politician who chairs the Republican Jewish Coalition, Corry Bliss who oversees the super PAC and Jake Kasdan. Ryan’s wife Miriam was also along for the ride of a lifetime.
Ryan pleaded the Republicans case with Sheldon Adelson to pry money out of this mega wealthy donor.
Since Ryan can’t legally solicit or accept a seven-figure political donation he left the room after his jawboning.
After he left, Norm Coleman made the ask and secured a $30 million contribution.
Aren’t political crooks fun to watch? I have often wondered whether Ryan or McConnell or Trump for that matter ever consider how history is going to record their actions?
Maybe it won’t condemn them. Maybe they will be the torchbearers heralding a new era in American politics “Come Feed My Bank Account” as opposed to ‘Come feed my children’ as Jesus requested.
Of course, we know that Sheldon Adelson acted out of the kindness of his heart and expects nothing in return for his $30 million. My goodness no. That would be a quid pro quo which is illegal in finance contribution regulations.
But wait! We now know that Mick Mulvaney, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget and now also the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau that he is dismantling, announced to a roomful of bankers that he only talked with people that donated to his campaigns when he was a member of the House of Representatives.
No behind the scenes snarking for him. He even had the gall today to defend the White House aide that made a snide remark about John McCain ‘dying anyway’.
Apparently, the Trump base laps this stuff up. In that case, they are correct in their threat that if Trump goes down there will be armed rebellion.
If you doubt what I am saying check this site for the newest news on the latest and greatest #MAGA.
Please get a good breath of clean air before dumpster diving!
I have taken to calling Republicans and others who promote the ‘share the love’ campaigns of Trump – dumpsters.
I am sure none of my Facebook ‘friends’ follow me any longer. Just as I am sure that when Trump goes down and evil is always pounded at some point there will be an armed rebellion by the dumpsters.
So that was my third point – Republicans are more corrupt now than at any time in history.
My second important piece that is moving thru history and will give Americans a chance to reclaim our country.
Republicans have passed voter suppression laws in many states to keep minorities from voting.
A glaring case from Texas concerns teens registering to vote. You can use a conceal/carry license to register to vote but not a student ID! This includes college student IDs.
Due to the confusion surrounding the requirements and opportunities to vote, only 43% of eligible youth voted in 2016.
This year there are major campaigns to register young people to vote. I read that one state is even 16-and 17-year- olds to vote. They can’t vote until they turn 18 but the paperwork will already be completed.
In California, they can even register to vote online.
As women were a major deciding factor in electing Trump (46% of white college-educated women voted for Trump in the 2016 election!) I do not know why.
The same margin held true for the election involving Roy Moore in Alabama except that he did not win.
Why women have voted that way I do not know. Nor do I know why so many women are now on fire to defeat Republicans. But that news is always good news.
Some big events that are shining light on women in politics:
Senator Tammy Duckworth is now permitted to nurse her newborn on the Senate floor!
Maryland’s Krish Vignarajah and Wisconsin’s Kelda Roy made waves with their campaign ads showing them nursing their infants.
According to an article in ‘The Conversation” a Democratic congressional candidate in New York, Liuba Grechen Shirley was just granted permission from the Federal Election Commission to use campaign funds to cover the cost of childcare while she runs for office.
However, it is still very discouraging to read in “The Conversation” of April 19th in an article by Joya Misra, Professor of Sociology & Public Policy, the University of Massachusetts at Amherst that parental leave and maternity leave are so dismal in the United States to the rest of the world.
As you can see Finland rates as the most generous country in the world by giving 161 weeks of paid maternity leave. The US? ZERO WEEKS! Other countries that share the same position as the US? Lesotho, Liberia, Papua New Guinea and Swaziland.
I wonder if Trump-land is going to introduce legislation to fix this stark and unflattering discrepancy? Your thoughts?
In a world lead by France where 99% of children age 3 thru 6 receive support for child care.
The US ranks below Hungary and above only Chile, Mexico and Turkey.
The only way this conversation will be changed is for women to enter politics at all levels and get elected so that the real cultural values of this country will be recognized.
Women don’t have to be elected to office in order to have a voice in how this country is run? There are so many opportunities to get involved and legally influence the legislators across the country.
Please follow this link to the World Economic Outlook website to find several eye-opening statistics and trends regarding the topics above and others such as how globalization is spreading tech across borders.
While I am still out of sorts from the preceding topics I will close with what I consider a major disaster.
The global recession may technically be over but it still casts a black shadow in the United States.
Nighttime is still here for the middle class.
In fact, the middle class was the big loser in the last economic downturn. The rust belt is disappearing at an increasingly faster rate.
A study by Joseph Morreale, Dyson College of Arts & Sciences, Pace University with Julia Young, Pace University depicts the loses of the Great Recession (late 2000s).
The middle class in the United States of America is only a shadow of its earlier self.
Their analysis showed that from 1970 to 2010 the middle class shrunk by 6.9%.
In the same time period, the Top 20% of all households rose 6.9%.
The Pew Research Center published an income calculator which stated that “half of the American adults lived in middle-class homes in 2014.”
“In percentage terms, 51% of adults lived in middle-income households, 29% in lower-income households and 20% in upper-income households.”
The PEW Center’s new analysis “shows that the American middle class lost ground in the vast majority of metropolitan areas from 2000 to 2014.
The share of adults in the lower-and upper-income ranks in most areas rose in most areas.
“There was more movement into the upper-income tiers in about half of the areas, while in the other half there was more movement downward.”
I entered my personal data similar to my status.
Based on household income and the number of people in your household, I was in the lower-income tier, along with 20% of adults in the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington area.
The lower tier in this area was 20% in Minnesota compared to 29% for the US.
“Among all American adults with my education, age, race, ethnicity, and marital status, 11% are lower income, 58% are middle income and 31% are upper income.”
(The calculator is weighted so that each household’s income is equivalent to a three-person household (this is the whole number nearest to the average size of the U.S. household which was 2.5 in 2014).
A comparison of the results of the two studies are similar to the Pew report which designated 11% more people to the upper-income bracket.
Morreale and Young, after a lot of testing, settled upon the variables that were most significant:
Percent of college education (2 or more years in college)
Single-parent households (Female Householder)
Real GDP (in billions).
This demonstrates the birth of the discontent among middle and lower income levels as to government not listening, loss of middle-income jobs and increases in economic and social strife.
No longer is the belief held that if you worked hard enough, smart enough and long enough you would achieve middle-class standing.
The worse the economy got the worse a lot of the middle class got.
The more the economy grew (small but steady during Barack Obama’s term) the worse a lot of the middle class got.
People could not and still cannot get ahead.
Unless they can get the education necessary to learn the new technology namely machine learning and deep learning, and neural networks they now will realize the loss of a dream.
I spoke with two men in the waiting room on a recent afternoon. One was an auto mechanic that owned his own shop and the other was a retired man living north of Grand Marais in Cook County, Minnesota.
The comments of these men centered on the cost of new equipment or updating the equipment used to run his business so he decided (as do many other mechanics and small business owners) not to invest many thousands of dollars in computer equipment and training.
A dealer of recreation vehicles and equipment such as snowmobiles, chain saws, lawn mowers complained bitterly of training mechanics from no experience to manufacturer certification only to lose them to the lure of more money in the city of Duluth, MN.
Cook County is a favorite place for big city folks who travel the 3 or more hours to the wilderness of Cook County. They are fleeing the rat race of the ‘big city’ to recreate in the many lakes, forests and yes, even a ‘mountain’ or two.
The real bite is that manufacturers of the equipment used in the playground of Cook County (and no doubt across the nation) require that warranty work must be completed by certified mechanics.
At almost every new thought, the mechanic I was speaking with, took off his obligatory baseball cap (grease stained and crumpled so it was almost not recognizable as a baseball cap! MAC TOOLS was emblazoned on the front) and ran his hand through his hair, raised an arm in frustration and slammed it down into his lap.
The retired gentleman recalled the small business owner as saying that since he would train new technicians only to lose them to a car company or something else in Duluth, he was his highest paid technician.
Frustration at not being able to have any influence on one’s destiny runs deep and wide.
While this frustration may account for many of Donald Trump’s supporters, I still do not understand how these smart, intelligent men (they claim to be not smart or tech savvy except for the mechanic who admitted that he had a smartphone “but only for business” but said that he could go on the internet and learn something) find the gumption or whatever the elusive connection is called, to support #MAGA.
Good, honest, decent men ensnared in the massive changes underway in the current market and not desiring because of age, health or another reason, did not/could not learn all the new technology, “there is no way to keep up with the changes.”
What a massive, unexpectedly complex post. One topic was encased in another so that both had to be acknowledged, however briefly.
But that is the way in today’s world. The Fourth Industrial Revolution stomps on. Sometimes it ravages people’s live. Sometimes it increases the options for other people. But always under the HARSH gaze of politics.

Let’s Talk! As Kathy Griffin would say.
As Michele Williams would no doubt say.
Since when is it a crime to speak your mind in this country?
I guess since the fascist dump and his minions took hold.
You have had your chance to speak your mind since the end of WWII.
YOU have had your chance to speak up for the last 50 YEARS! to make your opinions known. To be part of the American Discourse.
If YOU didn’t?
TOO BAD!!! Don’t try to prevent others from doing so now.
Did YOU serve in the Korean Conflict?
Did YOU serve in the Vietnam War?
Did YOU serve your country at all?
Did YOU stand up for the rights of Minorities?
I don’t have any use for your ‘OPINIONS’.
If YOU didn’t have the guts to let the draft take you.
If YOU didn’t have the guts to stand up for the rights of those less privileged than you.
If YOU don’t have the conscience to wonder if YOU should be helpful to those less advantaged than YOU!
If YOU are only concerned about how much the government can make for you!
Then I don’t have any use for YOUR opinions. AMERICA has ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS stood up for more than ME!
Since the REVOLUTION IN 1775 is has ALWAYS BEEN THUS!
Now it seems to be ME! ME! ME!
Get over YOURSELF!
I have had Facebook ‘friends’. Yes believe it or not.
When I found out that they vehemently espouse the Populist, Nativist belief system!
I UNFRIEND them.
They don’t deserve my time to read their drivel.
That person is not deserving of respect the title of AMERICAN CITIZEN! conveys on them.
Are they an American? Yes.
Can they vote? Yes.
Are they deserving respect as an AMERICAN CITIZEN? Not a fat chance.
What have they done that has earned RESPECT?
An immigrant that has contributed to the growth of DEMOCRACY, to the growth of the AMERICAN IDEAL is MORE worthy of respect than a tadpole on a slimy rock!
The person that has squandered their devotion and allegiance at the altar of POPULISM rather at the altar of ‘WE HAVE A LOT TO OFFER THE REST OF THE WORLD!’ and has not earned the respect to be known as an AMERICAN CITIZEN.
That person does not understand that being an AMERICAN CITIZEN means to be part something bigger than THEMSELVES.
That person is history!
If that person is ready to accept is ready to accept that being an American Citizen means that they must be part of something Bigger than themselves!
Then and ONLY then will I accept them as an AMERICAN CITIZEN.
Otherwise, to continue to spew words and promote the actions of a NAZI or a WHITE SUPREMACIST means to be a dreg found at the bottom of history as a FASCIST!
They are not a democrat. Yes, small ‘d’. As in democracy.
If someone willing to accept that others are as deserving of respect as they are then they can attain to the virtue of known as a being a democrat. Then that someone is deserving of an honorable place in history.
If you look down on others as ‘dogs’.
If you look down as on others as deserving of less respect than you.
Then you are not deserving of the title AMERICAN CITIZEN!
Do you accept others as deserving of less respect than you?
Do you accept yourself as being more worthy of a place at the banquet table that Jesus has laid out than others?
You have chosen your place and it is not at that table.
You are not in the place that Jesus has chosen for you!
You have decided that you are NOT welcome at HIS banquet! Read the REAL gospel! Not the FAKE one.
GOD DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE!
If you feel you are BETTER than someone else
You are the one that is not welcome!
You are certainly welcome to your opinion.
You are not welcome to your own GOSPEL!
You are the one that is UNWORTHY!
And that is OK.
That is YOUR Choice.
GOD IS FIGHTING FOR YOUR PEACE!
Thanks for stopping.

Spectacular Solar Flare Feb 24, 2011
High Energy Solar Flares affect the operation of orbiting satellites and can even pose a risk to astronauts on the International Space Station.
However, “CMEs Coronal Mass Ejections, huge eruptions that send clouds of solar plasma streaking through space at millions of miles per hour are the real danger. CMEs that hit earth can spawn intense geomagnetic storms,” and disrupt power grids, satellite navigations, and radio communications.
“In March 1989, a strong CME caused a blackout that left 6 million people in the Canadian province of Quebec without power for 9 hours!”
In 1859 a powerful slammed into Earth generating beautiful auroral displays as far south as the Caribbean. If a geomagnetic storm as strong as that one – known as a Carrington Event, were to hit today the damage could run as high as $600 billion to $2.6 trillon damage in the US alone!
The sun blasted out a coronal mass ejection (CME) along with a part of a solar filament, over a 3 hour period on Feb 24, 2015 Credit: Solar Dynamics Observatory NASA
“The U.S government is getting more serious about dealing with the dangers posed by powerful sun storms.”
On Thursday (October 29) the White House released two documents that lay out the new national plan for mitigating the negative effects of solar flares and other types of ‘space weather’.
The space weather can wreak havoc all over the technological earth wiping out communications centers, power grids, and even satellite navigation.
This new plan is called “National Space Weather Strategy”
I started watching this collection of Time Lapse Photography by the astronauts on the International Space Station. My wife brought me a full plate of her out of the world spaghetti and I couldn’t stop watching the panorama of space.
Well, the spaghetti is done but the film isn’t. But I still have at least one more post to repair.
We are moving from our traditional home of 43 years to a tiny teeny apartment. Two bedrooms so it isn’t like a studio but where do you put 43 of accumulation. I don’t even know where to start.
Thanks for stopping by.
I recommend subscribing to this time-lapse photography. Remember to ding the bell so that you will be notified when updates are posted.
This is the first blog post on this new website. This site is dedicated to those that have gone before; before with courage in the face of ridicule, before with insight no one else could see, before with the thirst to share their newfound knowledge to anyone that would listen.
“Education is all a matter of building bridges” Ralph Ellison ( know most widely for his novel “Invisible Man” 1952 Random House.
The world is exploding with changes in this year 2017. I remember reading an article a few years ago in 2010 maybe that we wouldn’t recognize computers by the year 2020 or even more so 2030 the whole environment will have changed. The journey that I began in February 2017 tiptoeing into a blog regarding an amazing article. It was written in the US Chamber of Commerce Foundation newsletter by Mark D’Alessio. He was quoted by Gus Lubin in Business Insider Magazine, http://www.businessinsider.com/jobs-that-are-disappearing-fastest-2016. Mr. Lubin lists the jobs that will be lost because of technological advancement.
“One thing we know for sure is technologies will continue to impact the workplace. This, in reality, means that workers need skills that are in demand and are transferable to a range of occupations. Workers need to manage their risk in the marketplace and continuously skilling up to the needs of the 21st-century economy. ”
I read an article a week or so ago (which incidentally led to the development of this website) that 10 million jobs had been lost in the last 10 years! Every week now there are articles, commentaries, pundits that know the outcome of all this Artificial Intelligence. What has deep learning to do with self-driving cars? How can I feel, taste, touch Machine Learning? We are only beginning to see the ramifications of all of our technological advancement. But this is old news. The new news:
TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE COMING! AUGUST 21, 2017!!!
This an excerpt from Space.com
“Three months from today (May 21) a shadow of darkness will travel across the United States in the middle of the day. The portion of the country that falls under this shadow will experience a total solar eclipse, an incredible phenomenon that occurs when the moon completely covers the disk of the sun. Here are just a few of the things you’ll need to know as you count down to this rare experience:
On Aug 21, 2017, the total solar eclipse will be visible in a 70-mile-wide band stretching from Oregon to South Carolina. The region where the moon completely covers the sun – called the path of totality” – will pass through Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Observers in the U.S. (including in Alaska and Hawaii) positioned outside of this band will be able to see a partial solar eclipse. The partial eclipse will also be visible from the rest of North America, Central America and part of South America.”
“Eclipse – Journey to the Dark Side” by Frank Close (I JUST HAVE to interject. This is the second time in my life that I have run into this title. It is a play by Howard Richardson and William Berney titled ‘Dark of the Moon’. It was produced on Broadway in 1945. It went on to much acclaim in college and high school drama productions – where I first ran into it; and an album by Pink Floyd “Dark Side of the Moon” Harvest Records March 1, 1973, Abbey Road Studios (well so what if it has four extra syllables!). From the 1945 Broadway Play “Ballad of Barbara Allen”
A witch boy from the mountain came, A – pinin’ to be human, Fer he had seen the fairest gal…A gal named Barbara Allen. Anyway, a 1953 revival added 3 more verses.
The reason that I published this blog so far in advance of the website being published, was so that you could run to your tablet and order 2 Kids books for the momentous occasion:
and the kids can buy for you:
“Totality: The Great American Eclipses of 2017 and 2024” (Oxford Press, 2017) by Mark Littman and Fred Espenak
“See the Great American Eclipses” (Great American Eclipses LLC, 2016) by Michael Zeiler
“Your Guide to the 2017 Total Solar Eclipse” (Springer, 2016) by Michael Bakich
“An American Eclipse: A Nation’s Epic Race to Catch the Shadow of the Moon and Win the Glory of the World” (Liverlight 2017) by David Baron
“Sun Moon Earth: The History of Solar Eclipses from Omens to Doom to Einstein and Exoplanets” (Basic Books, 2016) by Tyler Nordgren
And how could I get by without a Facebook Post (printed below) AND a plug for Amazon! Hopefully, I will get this site published soon so that I can sell you these Fabulous Amazon books from that Fabulous Amazon library from my personal website as an Amazon Affiliate (see the disclosure below).
Two additional tidbits: I noticed somewhere a blurb about some comparison of the 1973 eclipse vs the one that is coming. It was regarding anti-matter and no it was as the New York Time reporter quipped “the antimatter cooked the burgers on the grill” or (something close to that).
“There’s something remarkable about a single snapshot of the Earth – an intact view of our planet in its entirety, hanging in space,” the astronaut Scott Kelly observed in an essay on Medium (www.medium.com). The challenge of getting far enough away to get the Earth into a single frame and the matter of lighting. “In order to view the Earth as a fully illuminated globe, a person (or camera) must be situated in front of it, with the sun directly at his or her back. Not surprisingly, it can difficult to arrange that shot while traveling approaching thousands of miles per hour”.
This website: Deep Education Web: Artificial Intelligence, Deep Learning, Machine Learning, Neurol Networks, Tensor et al. will be coming to a neighborhood near you – hopefully by the end of June 2017.

Always an enticing vision causing man to look beyond, beyond the ground, beyond the sky into the New Horizons that have kept calling since the beginning of time.
As a young man with friends, we would set off in September (the nights were getting cold and so kept the mosquitoes at bay), sitting by a warm fire after a long day of paddling in the Boundary Waters, sipping a muscle warming brandy and water staring at the stars. Oh so brilliant, no city lights to dim their glory, to be transported to the land of imagination. What if? I wonder when? Who would have thought? How often?
The wonder of it all.
